hi i'm a tenth grader from michigan. i have been haveing problems with my splean. i had mono around mid feburary it was not a severe case and i only missed about 1 1/2 day's of school. i really got no extra rest like i should have. my doctor told me if i felt up to going to school i could, so i did. does anyone know if my stomach problems are caused from mono. if so and what should i do? the doctor i went and saw did not find anything wrong and the ultra sound came up clear but sometimes it hurts to stand up or breath.

I am not trying to scare you but... you need to be seen by your doctor ASAP. Sometime people can rupture their spleen with mono. This is rare but it can happen. Signs of a ruptured spleen include: pain in the left upper part of your abdomen (under the left chest), feeling lightheaded, feeling like your heart is beating fast and hard, bleeding more easily than usual and having trouble breathing.
I hope this helps |

the pain in my stomach usually only comes. i notice, when i work out or do a lot of physical activity. i told my mom i want to get my blood tested so i will see my doctor. what happens if you no longer have a splean? i heard you can get certain types of cancer easier.
thanks kimmiejs |

Your spleen helps your body resist infection. If your spleen has to be taken out, you are more at risk of getting severe infections. Your risk of infection is highest in the first 2 years after you have a splenectomy. Your risk will also depend in part on your age and whether you have other diseases. Since you are young and healthy if your spleen needed to be removed you should be OK.
First of all there is a good chance this has nothing to do with your spleen what-so-ever. You could have pulled/ strained an abdominal muscle. You could have a hernia. Please, do not get all worried. The important thing is that you get checked out thoroughly by your doctor. Pain is your body's way of telling you something could be wrong. I have a good feeling that your spleen is not the issue and that is probably something minor. Just go see your doctor and be honest with him. No matter how embarrassing or trivial something may seem, talk to your doctor honestly and openly.
Let us know how you are. Take care.
